Many presidential administrations order unique State China Service for use in Official White House entertaining. The designs reflect changing tastes of presidential families. The Harry S. Truman china, made by the American company Lenox, features a heacy gold rim and celadon-green border. At the center is the seal of the President of the United States in raised gold encircled by stars for the forty-eight states. The eagle's head was turned toward the olive branch of peace by a 1945 executive order redefining the Presidential Seal. This elegant 8" glass decoupage plate by designer John Derian is hand painted by artist Katharine Barnwell.

About the Artists
Decoupage is the art of cutting and gluing paper images to surfaces. John Derian, an avid collector of antique fruit, flower and animal prints, hand-paints borders and patterns over centuries-old ledgers and letters. He combines all these elements into charmingly eccentric collages which are reprinted and pieced together in layers under glass accessories. His ever expanding collection includes plates, platters, paperweights, lamps, table tops, umbrella stands, vases and shadow boxes. John Derian's designs are handmade in his studio in New York and prized by collectors around the world.
Katharine Barnwell is a classically trained artist living and working in New York City. Her studies began in Florence in the studio of Signorina Nera Simi, continuing in New York at the Art Students League, The National Academy and Pratt Institute.
