Product Description

Many presidential administrations order unique State China Service for use in Official White House entertaining. The designs reflect changing tastes of presidential families. During a New York shopping trip in 1861, First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln selected a French porcelain dinner and dessert service. Decorated with the arms for the United States surrounded by a border of her favorite solferino purple color with gilding on the outer edge, it was made by Haviland and Company and has since been reordered many times. This elegant 8" glass decoupage plate by designer John Derian is hand painted by artist Katharine Barnwell.

These plates are not microwave or dishwasher safe.

About the Artists

Decoupage is the art of cutting and gluing paper images to surfaces. John Derian, an avid collector of antique fruit, flower and animal prints, hand-paints borders and patterns over centuries-old ledgers and letters. He combines all these elements into charmingly eccentric collages which are reprinted and pieced together in layers under glass accessories. His ever expanding collection includes plates, platters, paperweights, lamps, table tops, umbrella stands, vases and shadow boxes. John Derian's designs are handmade in his studio in New York and prized by collectors around the world.

Katharine Barnwell is a classically trained artist living and working in New York City. Her studies began in Florence in the studio of Signorina Nera Simi, continuing in New York at the Art Students League, The National Academy and Pratt Institute.
