This pewter paperweight features an American Bald Eagle inspired by the design of an eagle-head pommel on a saber in the White House Collection. The saber was commissioned for President George Washington by French volunteers in the American Revolution. Made at the Klingenthal Amory in Alsace, France, the gilded brass, mother-of-pearl and steel saber was never presented to President Washington, who died before it was completed. The French government possessed the saber until 1933, when they donated it to the White House Collection. Pewter with glass dome. Made in the U.S.A.
