Additional Information

Across from the White House in Lafayette Park stands a bronze statue of a man riding a horse. The man is Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States, in the midst of fighting the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. Created by Clark Mills, it was the first statue of a person on horseback ever cast in the United States. The statue has stood in Lafayette Square since 1853.
