The third in a series focusing on the President's Neighborhood, this issue of White House History looks at the era of the Mexican-American War in Washington through a complete transcription of the diary of Elizabeth Dixon, wife of Congressman James Dixon. The issue also includes articles on a statue of Thomas Jefferson, a portrait of the conquistador Cortés, the furnishings of President and Mrs. Polk's Nashville mansion, and a selection of early daguerreotypes of the capital city taken during the war.
