Additional Information
The seal on this glass decanter is taken from the glassware ordered by President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln in the spring of 1861 from Christian Dorflinger’s Greenpoint Glass Works in Brooklyn, New York. This eagle insignia, enclosed within a shield-shaped cartouche, features an eagle, perched upon a shield, carrying arrows in its left talon and an olive branch in its right. Beneath the shield is a swag bearing the motto, “E Pluribus Unum,” “Out of many, one.” The Lincoln glassware was reordered several times and remained in use at the White House until the Benjamin Harrison administration.
