The giant pandas, Hsing-Hsing and Ling-Ling, depicted on this ornament, were given to the American people by China in honor of President Richard M. Nixon's visit in 1972. In the fifty years since they arrived, China has loaned a succession of giant pandas to the United States. The continued presence of the pandas at the National Zoo in Washington D.C., has become a beloved attraction for generations of visitors.
