Additional Information
The White House Tartan is a tribute to the eight Scottish stonemasons who traveled to Washington in 1794 to embellish the sandstone selected by George Washington for the White House. Thirty-five American presidents, from James Monroe to Joseph Biden, have claimed Scottish heritage. The five colors in the Association's tartan represent those associated with the architectural fabric of the White House itself. Red, green and blue for the State Rooms, White for the stone, and Grey for the Stonemasons. The design is registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans.
