Additional Information
The exterior of this glass decoupage box depicts a painting by artist John Ross Key. Key painted this image of the north side of the White House in 1914. Key, the grandson of Francis Scott Key, captured the bustling activity of carriages and pedestrians on the approach to the North Portico of the President's House on a bright summer day. Today the painting hangs in Blair House: The President's Guest House, just across Pennsylvania Avenue from the scene Key captured. On the interior is the Official White House portrait of First Lady Edith Roosevelt, painted by Theobald Chartran in 1902. Mrs. Roosevelt is elegantly dressed complete with hat and gloves, taking in nature on a bench on the South Lawn of the White House.
