Additional Information
George Washington, the only president to never live in the White House, oversaw its design and determined that it be built of stone and embellished with rich carving. The stone masons are said to have made a labor of love carving the lush and playful 14-foot swag above the North Door. Scottish roses, acorns, fruits, and oak leaves fill this abundant garland, suspended from fluttering ribbons, all rendered in Aquia stone. It remains unquestionably the finest stone carving in America. This handmade ARTEL glass votive features hand-engraved detailing of the White House North Portico.
