Additional Information
The Blue Room is the architectural climax of the State Floor. Its central location, elegant oval shape, and striking vista through the South Portico make it the principal drawing room in the White House. This unique umbrella, made exclusively for the White House Historical Association, is inspired by the elegant blue and gold designs found in the bordered wallpaper, silk draperies, upholstery, and oval rug, which embellish the room today and which are based on designs from the presidency of James Monroe more than two hundred years ago.
