Born July 28, 1929, in Southampton, New York, Jacqueline Lee Bouvier graduated with a degree in French literature from George Washington University in 1951. She married Senator John F. Kennedy on September 12, 1953, and gave birth to four children, two survived. In 1961, she entered the White House as first lady, and made a great impact renovating many rooms, hiring the first White House curator, and establishing the White House Historical Association in 1961. Her deep interest in the arts also brought national attention to American culture. Following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November 1963, she moved with her children Caroline and John Jr. to New York City. She later married Greek businessman Aristotle Onassis and she became an editor for Doubleday. Jacqueline Kennedy died on May 19, 1994, at the age of sixty-four.
