The White House by John Ross Key, grandson of Francis Scott Key, author of "The Star Spangled Banner" is of the North Portico in springtime. The painting shows the White House from across the North Lawn, which is filled with greenery and blooming flowers surrounding the central fountain. Key began his career as a cartographer and draftsman and was a colleague of James McNeill Whistler at the United States Coast Survey when they were both young men.

A View of the White House with Cherry Blossoms by Margaret Huddy is a colorful watercolor that celebrates the annual cherry blossom season in Washington, D.C. It was First Lady Helen Herron Taft's idea to plant the cherry trees along the Tidal Basin and her wish was realized in 1912 when 3,000 trees were given to the United States by Japan. Now more than 100 years old, the spectacular blossoms of the mature cherry trees are the focus of an annual springtime festival and parade.
